What on earth is Cheese Everywhere about, you ask? Well, having lurked behind the scenes for quite some time, I’ve decided to try my hand at blogging. It’s a great way to meet others, discuss thoughts, get some web development experience, and find new ideas for just about anything.
I’ve tossed around some topics for what exactly to blog about, and ultimately decided that since the next few years of my life are going to involve LOTS of change, I may as well share my experiences in hopes that other people can profit from what I’m learning first-hand. Besides, what better way to get through any awkward bits of the next few years than by broadcasting it to the world?
You’ll hear more about the wild ride that is my life in the coming weeks, months, and years, but for now, suffice it to say that my personal life is changing, my professional life is in constant flux, and theworld seems to be shifting around me. Maybe something that I’m going through will strike a chord with you, and give you insight as to how to handle it.
But, without further ado, the reasoning behind the website name. Ever heard of the book “Who Moved My Cheese?” by Spencer Johnson?
It had quite an impact on me. It’s one of those books that you should read every once in a while just to remind yourself of the message. Basically, the story shows how people who embrace change are better off in the long term. Even someone who is mired in the “old ways” can change his life by looking for new opportunities. And most importantly, it helps to have a sense of humour about it all!
For those who haven’t read it, it’s essentially a story about two mice and two “littlepeople” who live in a giant maze. They all wander the maze in search of cheese, and one day find the mother lode. The two mice take their fill, but continue to scour the maze just in case. The two littlepeople, on the other hand, make themselves comfortable and get used to having so much cheese around. Then….. one day………. it’s gone. The mice realized this could happen at any time, and get right up and start out into the maze again. The littlepeople spend too much time thinking the cheese will come back, there was no reason for it to disappear in the first place, and they have a right to it. Eventually, one of the littlepeople (appropriately named ‘Haw’) sees the flaw in their thinking and decides to do something about it - and somehow manages to even laugh at himself for not seeing the opportunity sooner.
My goal for this blog is to work on taking advantage of new opportunities presented to me, and sharing my experiences with you. If something I hit on in my own life affects how you think or feel about your life, then I have succeeded!
